Portable tanks can be built to a variety of sizes and can be furnished for atmospheric pressure, or designed for internal and external pressure. All materials are available including stainless steel, nickel alloys and reactive metals. As with other pressure vessels, these can be provided in many material finishes and weld finishes, from mill sheet and plate to a polished 320 grit surface and welds varying from an "as welded" condition to a highly polished sanitary, or corrosion resisting finish.
Portable pressure vessels will usually receive the "U" stamp on the ASME data plate indicating design and construction meet the guidelines set by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code. UN data plates may also be required. Special consideration of each vessel is required for fitting types, wall thickness, and non-destructive testing, as well as protection of valves, fittings and other projections. Portable tanks can be designed in both vertical and horizontal configurations.
